The parents of Stanford soccer player Katie Meyer have broken their silence following her suicide in March 2022. While speaking to Today, Katie's mom, Gina, confirmed the manner of her daughter's death and said, "The last couple days are like a parent's worst nightmare and you don't wake up from it. So it's just horrific."
Katie's dad, Steven, also explained that their daughter was caught up in an incident with another player before she died.
Steven explained that Katie "was defending a teammate on campus over an incident and the repercussions of her defending that teammate [were possibly resulting in disciplinary action]."
Stanford University released a statement stating that addressing potential disciplinary actions against students was against its policy. You can find out more in the video.
