Even though we all know how babies are made and owe our parents a debt of gratitude for the gift of life, no one wants to think of their parents having sex. On a recent episode of Live! With Kelly and Ryan, Kelly Ripa and husband Mark Consuelos discussed this taboo subject. Their 21-year-old daughter Lola recently moved back in after studying abroad, and new boundaries had to be established.
Kelly and Mark had gotten used to being empty nesters. While they love having Lola home, they also value their alone time. Closed doors are good for that.
"She's not going to go back to her apartment, she's staying with us,” Mark explained. "And you know what she does now? The door's closed in our bedroom, no knock, she just walks in and says, 'Hey girls!'”
This behavior was not going to be tolerated by her parents.
Dad had to have a heart-to-heart with his daughter about this. He explained: “And so I said, 'Lola — I don't want you to take this the wrong way. I'm very excited that you are home. We missed you. You are the heart of this family. You're so funny and you're just fantastic. But you gotta knock.'"
"'Because at this point, anything you walk in on is your problem,'” Kelly added.
The couple had previously shared on the show that Lola walked in on them getting freaky on her 18th birthday, which also happened to be Father’s Day. The experience was traumatic.
"She shuts the door and you hear, 'You just ruined my birthday! And my life! And I used to see in color and now everything is gray,'" Kelly stated.
