La La Anthony is finally pulling the plug on her relationship with Carmelo Anthony. The actress has filed for divorce from her NBA player partner after 11 years of marriage. They share a 14-year-old son, Kiyan.
La La and Carmelo's relationship has been strained for quite some time, so this doesn't come as a total surprise to fans. The couple first got engaged on Christmas Day 2004, but didn't marry until 2010. By 2012, there were rumors of infidelity.
Rumors would come up that both were unfaithful throughout the relationship. In 2017, they split but would later come to reconcile. The couple has rarely been seen together since 2019, though they reportedly quarantined together throughout 2020. On June 17, 2021, La La filed for divorce in New York City, citing irreconcilable differences.
Carmelo and La La Anthony have a long history together. The couple first met through a mutual friend in New York City. It would be a while before they got together but once they did, they found it was an amazing connection. Melo proposed during Christmas 2004.
The couple opted for a long engagement. Two years after Melo proposed, he and La La welcomed son Kiyan. It wasn't until three years later, in 2010, that the two tied the knot. During that time, the family was the subject of La La's Full Court Wedding and later, La La's Full Court Life, which ran for five seasons, from 2011 to 2013.
Around that time, the couple started having problems publicly. In 2012, a 19-year-old woman claimed to have had a two-month relationship with Carmelo. The following year, he got into an altercation with NBA player Kevin Garnett on the court, during which Kevin told Melo his "wife tastes like Honey Nut Cheerios," leading to rumors of a hook-up between the two.
The couple struggled through the time, but ultimately worked things out. In 2015, issues seemed to arise again with rumors that La La was involved with rapper Maino. The rumors were quickly denied.
In 2017, La La and Carmelo announced a split. The two separated amid rumors that Carmelo had fathered a child during an affair. A professional dancer said the NBA player started ignoring her after learning she was expecting his child, forcing her to go public with the affair.
The couple reunited in 2018 and for a moment, it seemed like things were finally on an even keel with the two.
By July 2019, sources told People the two were living apart. "As La La and Carmelo have been living apart for quite some time, La La is proceeding with legal discussions as the next step in their relationship," a representative for La La said at the time.
The health crisis changed a lot for many families. In April 2020, La La revealed she and Carmelo were quarantining together with Kiyan and other family members on the West Coast. Still, she made it clear the two were focused on keeping things comfortable for Kiyan.
Some fans have wondered what would make La La finally file for divorce after all this time. Sure, things could have finally just run their course. Then again, there's a new rumor out about Carmelo that fans think may have been La La's last straw.
Hollywood Unlocked is reporting that a woman has shared that she gave birth to twins and Carmelo is the father. According to this woman, she met Carmelo in New York in 2020. At first, they got to know each other as friends but eventually became involved.
The woman claims that to her knowledge, Carmelo and La La have been separated the entire time she has been involved with him, though she was also aware they are still legally married. None of this was a problem until September 2020, when she allegedly discovered she was pregnant with twins.
The woman claims that she and Carmelo agreed an abortion would be the best course of action, but he never showed up to go to the procedure, which required someone else go with her. They later decided the woman would go to London to give birth to the twins without it becoming a paparazzi-riddled drama in the US.
The babies were born in April but remain in the hospital as they are cared for and grow. This woman was set to give birth in June, so she believes her babies will come home soon. That plan hit a snag when one baby, a boy named Cash, required surgery. She tried to contact Carmelo, but he reportedly wouldn't reply. He later emailed her claiming his phone was broken, which she saw as a poor excuse since he has more than enough money to replace a cellphone.
Carmelo apologized for blowing this woman off and allegedly told her he was dealing with another situation involving La La and Kiyan. She says he claimed he was about to lose his son over something else he did.
The mom of the twins claims she has come forward to make sure only that her kids get what they need.
"I've seen my wrong in the situation and I should've never let this get this far, but I don't want my kids to suffer," she said.
"I don't want to destroy, their family. I just can't function like this. I got to figure out how to deal with this … He will let me keep this a secret forever."
