10 Things ‘Home Alone’ Star Macaulay Culkin Confessed During Online ‘Ask Me Anything’ Session

After starring in everyone's favorite Christmas movie, Home Alone, Macaulay Culkin went on to become one of the most famous children of the 1990s. However, he was soon plagued by rumors of substance abuse and blasted by paparazzi and the media.

Now 37, Macaulay has come a long way from his Home Alone days — his IMDb page shows repeat appearances on hit TV shows like Robot Chicken and The Jim Gaffigan Show — but that doesn't mean he's left the movie that changed his life behind.

In January 2018, Macaulay took to Reddit to participate in an AMA, or Ask Me Anything. On Reddit, he fielded questions on just about everything, from Home Alone to his memories of Michael Jackson to his alleged drug abuse.

The AMA showed off a side of the child star that many had never seen before — and taught me some things I never expected!

1. His Alleged Drug Abuse Was Just That — Alleged

When user 916hotdogs bravely asked Macaulay about all the speculation around his drug use and abuse, the star answered: "Yes, I consumed and imbibed in drugs in my life. Never as bad as people said. Its not really a thing in my life right now. Im an adult."

For years, the media was obsessed with rumors that Macaulay was battling serious drug addictions. Hopefully, this AMA will finally put those invasive rumors to rest.

2. He Remembers Michael Jackson Fondly

It's no secret that Macaulay had a close friendship with the late Michael Jackson — in fact, Michael's daughter Paris is Macaulay's goddaughter.

User zeperf asked Macaulay if he'd be willing to share his favorite memory of the King of Pop. Surely Macaulay has countless, but he went with a silly one for the AMA.

"When I almost crashed my golfcart into his and he called me 'Applehead,'" Macaulay shared.

3. He Had A Crush On Saved By The Bell Character Kelly Kapowski

I think this is something most boys who grew up in the 1990s can say about themselves.

When user Bittykitty666 confessed having a "huge crush" on Macaulay as a child, they jokingly asked if Macaulay had a crush on them, too.

Macaulay's tongue-in-cheek answer? "Is your name Kelly Kapowski?"

4. He's A Big Reader

We might think of stars as being too busy to sit down with a book, but it sure does sound like Macaulay makes time for reading in his life.

When Jess1491 asked Macaulay what book "inspires" him, the star had quite a few answers up his sleeve. He listed The Little Prince as a book that stayed important to him as a child, and confessed that fans used to send him copies of The Catcher in the Rye when he was a teenager. In his 20s, Macaulay was a big fan of the Watchmen comic book series.

5. He Does Have A Few Acting Regrets

Like most people, Macaulay harbors a few regrets. He admitted that, back in the '90s, he was sent the script to the Wes Anderson movie Rushmore. Because he was retired at the time, Macaulay turned down a role, but he now lists that move as one of his regrets, calling Rushmore "a perfect movie."

When asked about his biggest life regrets, Macaulay admitted that he doesn't have one single biggest regret, but that "most of my regrets involve women."

6. He's A Serious Fan Of Wrestling

Macaulay fielded multiple questions about wrestling throughout his AMA. He called wrestler Chris Jericho his favorite athlete, and even discussed his favorite "finishing move."

7. He's Also A Big Fan '90s Video Games

Macaulay admitted that he plays video games "on a daily basis," and said the '90s game ToeJam & Earl is his favorite. He also said he's playing another '90s game called Star Fox 64.

8. Nowadays, He Considers Acting A "Hobby"

When user bobeany asked Macaulay if he would ever return to acting, the star admitted that he now thinks of acting as a pastime, saying: "I do gigs here and there- its not a job. Its a hobby."

9. He's Trying His Hand At Podcasting

The main reason for Macaulay's AMA was to promote his new podcast called Bunny Ears. He hosts the podcast with friend and fellow actor Matt Cohen. On iTunes, the comedy podcast is described as "a weekly discussion of things and stuff and things."

10. And Finally, He's Truly Happy These Days

After the rumors of Macaulay's alleged drug use made headlines, many '90s babies worried that their childhood hero had fallen into a depression. But, nowadays, that couldn't be further from the truth. And despite the rocky road that he took to get to today, the star wouldn't change a thing.

Macaulay said: "I am definitely happy. I know it sounds contrived or easy, but I wouldnt change a thing."

What did you learn from this AMA with Macaulay Culkin? I'm so glad to hear he's doing well these days — and I'd love to see him on my TV screen again soon.
