For all of us, life presents many challenges. Yet there is nothing as satisfying as staring those challenges square in the eye and letting them know you're not afraid.
When 39-year-old Maickel Melamed crossed the finish line of the 2015 Boston Marathon, he was doing just that.
The Boston Marathon was filled with heroes this April, including Rebekah Gregory, who lost her leg during the 2013 Boston Bombings but ran the race anyway. Incredible!
It took Melamed 20 hours to complete the race — but he wasn't alone.
A crowd of supporters were there waiting for him at 5 a.m.!
“The message here is that love is so much stronger than death,” he told WCVB. “It was an honor to the run the streets of this city.”
The 26.2-mile race is no small feat for someone who is in perfect physical health, but Melamed had a huge physical hurdle to overcome in order to finish the race.
Completing the Boston Marathon held special importance to him because his parents had brought him to Boston to receive treatment.
See what Malamed had to overcome and experience the beautiful moment when he crosses the finish line in the video below.
The energy is palpable as the crowd cheers!
