Have you ever experienced moments in your adult life when your parent oversteps boundaries and tries to dictate things that are happening in your life? In this clip from TLC UK, Jason and Justina, an engaged couple from Illinois, are experiencing a tough time with Annette, Jason’s mother, who continually wants to have the final say in their life choices.
We meet up with this family at a local toy store, where Jason and Justina are looking to treat their daughter, Taylor, to a toy treat for doing so well with potty training.
Annette repeatedly doesn’t seem to take the hint that her son and future daughter-in-law are looking to set an example for Taylor about not getting everything she wants all the time when they tell her that she doesn’t need to buy Taylor any toys during this trip.
“They try to dictate to me what I can buy for my granddaughter,” Annette explains, appearing annoyed. “No. Buy her whatever you want to buy her and I’ll buy her whatever I want to buy her.”
Things get even more strained between the couple and Annette when the subject of their wedding comes up. Annette even begins to cry in the toy store because she feels as though Jason continually takes Justina’s side when it comes to wedding planning and purposely leaves her out.
Justina decides to invite Annette over to her place for tea to try to clear the air. Again, Annette has some choice words for Justina and the plans for the upcoming wedding to her son.
“I just don’t think it’s natural for a son to have to be against his mother,” Annette tells Justina when she doesn’t want to accept the wedding venue idea that Justina is getting excited about.
