Man Was ‘Crazy’ For Spending 9 Years Building Home By Hand; Now He’s Debt-Free

Rob Brian wanted to live without any debt. About eleven years ago, he came up with a plan to make that dream a reality.

Rob began building a solar-powered 4,000-square-foot house in Mulhall, Oklahoma, completely by hand.

Most of the material came from his 330 acres of land, which helped him achieve the look of cedar trees sitting atop a hill. The house is actually two horse barns tied together, complete with windows made from wine bottles and electricity sourced from solar panels.

At first, his friends called him crazy — but once they saw the finished product and realized just how sturdy and eco-friendly it was, they realized its brilliance.

Rob made it so his house is able to stand up against Oklahoma's erratic and oftentimes life-threatening weather (like tornadoes).

Now Rob is sharing his home with the public and hopes to encourage young people to build instead of buy.
