Man Taking Out Trash Hears 92 Year Old’s Cries Before Finding Her Crawling For Help After Fall

When you're young, a fall is no big deal. However, if you're older, falling is a completely different story.

Even a simple slip in the shower can be deadly for an elderly person. That's why it's a good idea for old people who live alone to designate a caretaker or a kind neighbor who they can call on case of an emergency.

But, what happens when your neighbor is away? For 92-year-old Dorothy from West Linn, Oregon, she was faced with this troubling issue around New Years.

Dorothy's neighbor who usually helps her in times of need wasn't home when she fell in her bathroom and injured her lip and eyelid.

With no other options, the brave woman decided to crawl to her front door in order to get the help she needed. Luckily, Dorothy made it to her front step and began calling out for help hoping to be heard by anyone who was around.

A young man and neighbor, Brandon, happened to be outside and ready to lend a hand, but that's not all he did.

Brandon's wife Haleigh was so touched by his actions that she decided to share the story on Facebook's Love What Matters page.

Her post read:

We have been asking how we can better serve the people around us. Yesterday, while Brandon was taking out the trash, he heard an elderly lady calling out to him.

She was sitting on her front step, and had busted her chin and eyelid. We didn’t know this at the time, but she had fallen in her bathroom and crawled to her front door to find help.

Her neighbor, who usually helps her, was gone at the time. Brandon rushed over to help and knew she was in pain. Brandon picked her up and brought her inside to her chair, and he stayed with her to make sure she was okay.

Once the neighbor arrived, Brandon came back home and told me what had happened. It broke my heart, but I was so glad he was in the right place at the right time.

The next day, Brandon went to the store and came back with flowers for Dorothy (and me, too!). We walked over to give her the flowers and the second we walked into the room she said, (with a big smile on her face) ‘There you are! Come give me some sugar!’

It was adorable! She said Brandon was her knight and shining armor and that he was very good at ‘picking up old women!’

So, now we have a new friend who is 92 and a total sweetheart. I am so glad Brandon waited to take out the trash on his own time, and not when I asked him to! Hehe.

As you can see, both Dorothy and Haleigh are lucky to have someone as thoughtful as Brandon in their lives.
