Every year, Mary Matthews buys a small rosemary tree at Whole Foods. On December 5, the anniversary of her husband's death, Matthews lays the tree on her husband's grave.
This year, Mary went to Whole Foods in Winston-Salem, NC, but the only rosemary trees in stock were larger and more expensive than the ones she typically buys.
"I'm just disappointed I didn't get my little tree, but I'm making due with this one," Matthews said while in line.
She had no idea the cashier overheard her talking about her situation to the woman in line behind her.
When Matthews went to check out with the rosemary tree, the cashier did something so unexpected she ended up bursting into tears when she got back into her car.
This was something that helped her make her husband's grave a little more special this year.
