Meghan Markle shouldn't expect any warm welcomes from her brother-in-law anytime soon.
It was confirmed earlier this week that Meghan Markle will not travel with Prince Harry to the unveiling of the Princess Diana statue at Kensington Palace on July 1. This wasn't surprising to many people, who felt that between her tensions with the royal family and the fact that her baby will not even be a month old at the time of the trip, the timing wasn't ideal.
Still, UK sources are saying that Meghan was thinking to come. They insist that Prince William is banning Meghan from the event, although all signs have long shown she had no intention of attending in the first place. Additionally, William may be banning his own wife and kids from the event, showing that the matter of Diana is as touchy a subject between the brothers as ever before.
Ever since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's sit-down with Oprah Winfrey, we've been aware that the couple would welcome their second child this summer. Lilibet Diana surprised many royal fans by arriving a bit early with her birth on June 4. Harry and Meghan have been on maternity and paternity leave, enjoying adjusting to life as a family of four.
Royal fans are also aware that Harry will be traveling to the UK for the unveiling of a statue of Princess Diana on the grounds of Kensington Palace. The unveiling is on what would have been Diana's 60th birthday, July 1. Given Meghan's summer due date, it seemed unlikely she would join him at the event.
Recently, some rumors started to arise that Meghan was feeling good enough to make the trip, less than a month postpartum. Harry and Meghan's team have since come out to confirm she will not join him in London.
"Meghan is not going to travel. She has just had a baby and Harry will travel alone," a source told The Daily Mirror, per the Daily Mail.
This is a pretty logical conclusion and seems to make sense, yet British tabloids are insisting that Meghan is staying away because she knows her brother-in-law will not welcome her.
The Express royal reporter, Charlotte Griffiths, claims that William made it clear to everyone that Meghan was not welcome at the event.
"This decision and this whole thing was 50 percent William," she said.
"Diana is his mother too. He makes a point about that regularly behind closed doors. This was not the right time to bring Meghan in because there is so much tension between William and Meghan particularly."
It's further interesting because just last week, it was widely speculated that Kate Middleton and the Cambridge children will also not be in attendance at the event. With Diana as the focus, all eyes will be on her sons. It does seem a little unusual, however, given that William and Kate live with their children on the Kensington Palace grounds.
Sources have stressed that Kate has been working hard to mend fences in the family. She is likely to sit down with the two brothers away from the cameras to have some reconciliatory talks, they believe.
Harry and William will be the only two to make speeches that day, though it's also been noted that Kate was involved with this project.
"The Duchess has seen this project evolve from its conception and now to the finished article and undoubtedly wants to be there to support her husband," a source told The Mirror.
"No doubt there will be tensions between the Cambridges and Harry, but they all recognise that despite the obvious and deep rooted issues between them, they want the day to be solely about the Princess of Wales's enduring legacy."
That makes it unclear whether or not Kate will be present, but regardless, all eyes will be on Harry and William as royal fans try to read the relationship between Diana's two very different, grown sons.
