Son Is Completely Stunned When His Military Mom Shows Up To His Basketball Game

It’s always amazing when you see a family who truly loves to spend time together. Sure, there may be bickering and eye-rolling now and again, but even that is done with a level of affection reserved for those closest to you. Of course, we all reach that age where it feels like our parents have made it their mission to embarrass us in front of everyone we know. It usually sets in around middle school, right around the time our hormones kick in and our brains check out.

That’s what worried this mom when she planned a huge surprise for her eighth-grade son. As a Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force, Cotina Jenkins-Sellers missed out on cheering on her sporty son Derrick at his football games. Stationed in Kuwait for eight months, Jenkins-Sellers was finally able to return home in time for basketball season.

Working in cahoots with Derrick’s coach, Jenkins-Sellers and her husband, who is also in the military, arrived at the gym where their son was about to take a couple of free throw shots after staging a fake penalty. As he takes the first shot, she rushes up to stand right behind him.

Unfortunately, Derrick didn’t make any of the goals, but when he hears his mom’s voice reassuring him that it’s all right, he is in complete shock. Jenkins-Sellers thought he might try to play it cool in front of everyone, but the expression on his face is anything but subtle.
