12 Commonly Misheard Song Lyrics That Are Just So, So Wrong

Wrong: "'Excuse me while I kiss this guy."

Right: "Excuse me while I kiss the sky."

This is probably one of the most commonly confused lyrics of all time, but Jimi reportedly had a good sense of humor about it and would even pretend to kiss his fellow bandmates on stage while performing.

Wrong: "Hold me closer, Tony Danza."

Right: "Hold me closer, tiny dancer."

Yep, this is the one I mixed up, much to my mother's entertainment. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one, at least.

Wrong: "I can see clearly now, Lorraine is gone."

Right: "I can see clearly now, the rain is gone."

I'm not sure who people thought Lorraine was or why it would be such a relief to see her go, but this is one misheard lyric that continues to confuse listeners today.

Right: "Dirty deeds done dirt cheap."

Though the band is known for their edgier rock-and-roll antics, they weren't being quite as raunchy as folks thought when they misheard this one.

Wrong: "He's a carpet-cleaning man, and no one understands him but his woman."

Right: "He's a complicated man, and no one understands him but his woman."

Apparently listeners thought Shaft needed a side gig to pay the bills by cleaning carpets.

Wrong: "There's a bathroom on the right."

Right: "There's a bad moon on the rise."

Lead singer John Fogerty has been known to purposely flub the line and point in the direction of a venue's restrooms during shows.

Wrong: "Money for nothing and chips for free."

Right: "Money for nothing and chicks for free."

Honestly, I would be fine with an endless supply of chips for free, but that wasn't exactly what the band had in mind.

Rest assured that Freddie Mercury and his bandmates were in no way condoning animal violence in this popular anthem.

This is another one that slipped me up the first few times I heard it, but that might have more to do with the hunky lead singer.

This gives the quaint love song penned by Neil Diamond a whole new meaning, making one wonder how bad her face could have really looked.

I went back to listen to this one because I couldn't believe anyone would actually think those were the words. Lo and behold, the mumbly vocals really do make it hard to tell!

Right: "The answer my friend is blowin’ in the wind."

The folk singer's gentle demeanor early on in his career might be why several listeners assumed he was talking about a kinship with the tiny creatures rather than providing "the answer."
