It takes an incredible amount of strength, patience, and selflessness to be a parent. When you decide to have children, you decide to give up a lot of the freedom you may have had before, but almost every mother will tell you that it is all worth the sacrifice.
Having a healthy baby is every mothers wish, but sadly, it is not every mother's reality. The strength needed before suddenly multiples in these cases, but time and time again, these moms and their children prove that the battle is always worth the end result.
When Lacey Buchanan was told that her unborn baby would be born with a defect called Tessier cleft lip and palate, doctors warned her that the baby would most likely not make it past birth. She decided immediately that her baby deserved a fighting chance, and she would do everything in her power to give him one.
Although the doctors said otherwise, Christian, now 4 years old, has grown to be a happy and healthy toddler, despite being born blind from the rare defect that only has 50 known cases in the world. And although doctors believed he would also have issues developing mentally, he has proved them wrong by already surpassing other children his age.
But, like the parents of Simon Moore, Lacey's struggles with Christian extended outside the hospital when strangers would ask horrible questions like "why didn't you abort him," until Lacey finally decided she wouldn't sit back and listen to these things any longer.
This video serves as Lacey's answer to all of the nasty negative comments she has heard over the years, proving that a mother's love and strength can be powerful enough to overcome even the most devastating challenges.
