Stephen Savage posted a photo of Army Sergeant Monica Lin Brown on his Facebook. It wasn't the photo of Brown, so much as the images of the women next to her, that caused a stir.
Monica Lin Brown is the first woman during the war in Afghanistan and second woman since World War II to receive a silver medal — the third highest medal for valor in the United States. An army medic, Brown saved the lives of fellow soldiers being attacked and used her body as a shield.
Of course Monica Lin Brown deserves all the praise, respect, and reverence in the world for what she has done. Stephen Savage agrees but couldn't help but feel a little disappointed in most people.
Savage posed the question: why do more people know who the Kardashians are than Monica Lin Brown? I mean, after all, a reporter recently threw a massive tantrum on live television after having to cover their antics!

"A fact: the women on the left… I know they are Kardashians (I don't live under a rock, after all), and I know they do something… but I'm not sure which of them is which, nor what it is they actually do. But I do know who the young woman on the right is, Army Spc. Monica Lin Brown."
"A 19-year-old medic from Texas. she is the first woman in Afghanistan and only the second woman since World War II to receive the Silver Star, the nation's third-highest medal for valor."
"Army Spc. Monica Lin Brown, after an explosion, which wounded five soldiers in her unit, ran through insurgent gunfire and used her body to shield wounded comrades as mortars fell less than 100 yards away, the military said."
"Medical aid rendered under fire saved all five of her comrades. Now, technically, US female soldiers aren't supposed to participate in combat, but someone forgot to tell that to the Specialist. I think I'm OK with not knowing the other ladies."
SHARE if you agree that the women who fight on behalf of this country should be more famous than a few reality TV stars.
