Baby Elephant Is Caught In Current, Then Mom Comes To The Rescue

Only in the wild can we truly witness animals in their purest state.

When a mother elephant saw that her baby was struggling to get out of rapid waters, she used her maternal instincts to save the small calf.

It all started when the adult elephant was leading her child out of a choppy riverbank in Sabah, Borneo, back in August, 2013. In the video below, the mother does not experience much trouble with her own exit, but she sees her calf slipping behind.

The tiny elephant tries his best to trudge through the choppy waters surrounding him.

He just can't glide through the river as easily as his mother does.

He is too little to hold his own in the harsh waves.

The determined mother elephant nudges her child up the muddy embankment with her head and trunk. As she pushes, the little guy squirms through the steep mass of dirt grazing the blades of water.

She's able to get her precious baby away from the frightening waters, but next, she has to help him make it back to the rest of the elephant herd.

The baby’s tiny feet stumble and slip through the mud. His mom uses her trunk to guide him and pull him up to the grass with her. At last, the two elephants are back home with their family, far from the perilous river that put their strength to the test.
