Tattoo On Floating Limb Found In FL Waters Helped Police Figure Out Who It Belonged To

In mid-November of 2021, a Florida fisherman made an unthinkable discovery while in a local bay. He discovered the unidentifiable body part of a human being floating in the water.

The body part found featured a tattoo with three names, which helped police identify the remains as those of 47-year-old Stephanie Crone-Overholts. The mom had recently relocated from Pennsylvania to Florida, where she'd lived for only a few months before her murder.

Police arrested the man they believe is responsible. Robert Lee Kessler was charged with second-degree murder and abuse of a dead body. He was booked following an arrest on an unrelated drug charge.

Police believe that Crone-Overholts met Kessler at a fast-food restaurant. It's unclear how long they knew each other before the murder, but her loved ones knew something was wrong. The last text that Crone-Overholts' mother received from her daughter was asking for help.

Crone-Overholts and Kessler allegedly hit it off because they both were from the same area in Pennsylvania. She had been living out of her car at the time, and Kessler offered her a place to stay.

Additional remains belonging to Crone-Overholts were found in the days after the initial discovery. Though justice is now being served, it has been a heartbreaking ordeal for her sons, whose names were featured in the tattoo that led to her being identified.

"She did not deserve what happened to her," son Sean told WFLA.
