Angels are everywhere. That's what one incredible woman showed the world when she decided to do something utterly selfless and amazing.
Dr. Thaïs Aliabadi is an OB-GYN who had a patient who was addicted to heroin. Not only did she help the mom, Teresa, through the final weeks of her pregnancy with specialized care, she also supported her after the birth.
It was clear that Teresa was in no position to care for the baby. But instead of allowing the baby to go through the foster care system, the doctor who helped deliver her decided to become the child's foster mom herself.
Baby Coco was born addicted to drugs and required constant care. "She was extremely sick, withdrawing from heroin and meth,” says Aliabadi. “With a lot of love, and with the help of tons of doctors — we have been able to completely heal her.”
The healing required near-constant skin-to-skin care. But the experience of fostering the child has been life-changing for the doctor's entire family.
Little Coco is now 14 months old and thriving. Aliabadi says that even though Coco wasn't expected to walk or talk on a normal timeline, she's doing all of that and more. The foster mom even called her "the happiest baby on the block.”
Aliabadi’s older daughters, Delara and Layla, were so inspired by their family's decision to foster the child, they started a nonprofit called Coco’s Angels, which helps kids find foster homes.
