Over the years, the folk singer known as Odetta has certainly made her mark on history. She was an inspiring woman during the civil rights era, as well as an inspiring figure for other musicians like Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, and countless other folk singers of the turbulent era.
With a career spanning from the 1940's all the way until her death in 2008, Odetta inspired multiple generations to do better, think stronger, sing louder, and be prouder. Martin Luther King Jr. called her the "queen of American folk music," and when you watch the clip below, you'll see exactly why she earned herself such a title.
Whether it be issues regarding race, religion, or even the environment, Odetta only knew how to do right. And with her faith backing her, she managed to travel the world over and over again to spread her message of peace and love.
In this next incredible video, we get to see Odetta still performing despite her age. In the clip, she was a mere 8 months away from her heartbreaking death, and when this little old lady sings her amazing song within the confines of her wheelchair, you can feel the power resonating from her impenetrable soul.
While it's a horrible shame that we lost such a talented singer, at least we can be happy with the fact that she lived an incredibly full life, and even though she may not be on this Earth physically, the impact she had on so many things will never be forgotten.
Please SHARE this beautiful performances by one of the most beautiful singers of all time!
