9 Online Courses That Will Teach You To Craft Your Own Holiday Gifts

Another holiday season is upon us, and that means many of us are in the thick of planning out our gift giving. While there is absolutely nothing wrong with heading out into the world and picking up gifts from shops (seriously: I have plans to do this later today!), some people prefer making gifts by hand.

Unfortunately, we aren't all born with the ability to put together amazing presents just because we dream them up. Some of us have to learn those skills! Happily, there are plenty of online courses you can take that will teach you.

Knitting remains a popular activity because it doesn't require much and can even be kind of relaxing (until you mess something up). Learning to knit online is pretty straightforward, and you can try out classes at these spots (and unless noted, the classes and tutorials are free):

If you have ever wanted to learn a new craft, Create Academy is the place to check out. The site has courses in three categories: Food, Gardening & Floristry, and Home & Interiors. It also offers free classes, which is a good thing in a pinch as many of the courses are approximately $140. However, that price tag comes with lifetime access, so you can visit your purchased course over and over again.

Craft Courses is another site that offers online courses in arts and crafts. The site offers craft kits in a variety of categories, from ceramics to candle making to needlework kits. It also has classes in topics as diverse as beekeeping and felt art.

Long-Term Online Creative Classes

If you are looking for something a little more involved and long term, MasterClass is a great option for a true variety of potential classes. In Creativity and Craft, bartenders Lynnette Marrero and Ryan Chetiyawardana teach how to craft delicious drinks that you could absolutely bottle and turn into gifts. Artist Jeff Koons offers his own art class with an annual membership, and Oscar-winner David Lynch gives his unique perspective in Introduction: The Art Life.
