11 Surprising Things Every Expectant Mother Learns While She’s Pregnant

Any mom will tell you how much work it can take to have those little buns in the oven over nine months' time. Of course, they also wouldn't change one thing as long as they get to see those sweet faces staring back at them when all is said and done.

While I haven't gone through the process myself yet, I've had plenty of friends get real with me about the ups and downs of their pregnancy experiences. This made me realize that there's a lot more to it than chowing down on whatever you're craving and picking out cute outfits for them to wear.

Some women have worse symptoms than others, whether they be physical, emotional, or mental. Other moms choose adoption, surrogacy, or other great options for welcoming a child into their family. However a baby is welcomed, these are just a few certain things that pop up during a pregnancy.

1. No Two Pregnancies Are Ever The Same

Moms with multiple children can attest to just how different each of their kiddos behaved while waiting to make their debut, so don't be surprised if your nine months vary from your best friend's, someone on a message board, or even your own previous pregnancy.

2. Morning Sickness Isn't Just In The A.M.

The nausea can strike at any time of day and last your entire pregnancy, not just the first trimester (as some rumors like to make us all believe).

3. Everyone Will Have "Expert" Advice

Whether it's your mother-in-law, your dry cleaner, or your great aunt twice removed, everyone will likely have some sage wisdom they'll feel the need to share with you.

It might be best to smile and nod.

4. Sneezes Are Seriously Scary

Also coughing and laughing, or any sudden movement that might cause your super-sensitive bladder to react without warning.

5. Pantyliners Are Lifesavers

Even if you aren't one of those moms that continue to spot during their pregnancy, pantyliners can come in handy for the sneeze issue mentioned above without making you feel like you're wearing the diapers you'll soon be strapping onto your little one.

6. You Might As Well Live In The Bathroom

As you noticed, bathroom business is perhaps the biggest deal when it comes to your baby growing and squishing your bladder into a precariously small space (as well as the aforementioned ever-present morning sickness). This will have you start feeling like you should just hunker down for the long haul in your bathroom.

Since that isn't really an option, though, you should instead make sure to map out your plans for the day with plenty of clean-restroom options along the way.

7. Insurance Can Come With Extra Perks

Depending on your provider, you might be entitled to help purchasing important accessories like breast pumps, so take a close look at all the fine print or call in to get the details.

8. It's Possible To Feel Beaten Up From The Inside

The excitement of feeling your baby's first kick is something you'll never forget, but they only get more forceful as they grow bigger and stronger. Again, they also really like to practice their punches on your bladder.

9. Pillow Hoarding Is Important

If you have any hope of falling asleep while your body is stretched out to its maximum capacity, you need to invest in plenty of puffy pillows to keep every nook and cranny comfortable.

10. "Pregnancy Brain" Is No Joke

So maybe you folded and put away dirty laundry. Or you might have tried filling the dog bowl with cereal. Be prepared for any number of "pregnancy brain" occurrences, in which your nugget seems to steal all your logic and make you forget even your own name (and probably the car keys).

11. None Of The Pain Or Discomfort Compares To The Love You Feel

Sure, dads have a lot of love going for them while you're expecting, but they won't really get that level of knowing you're connected every second of every day and falling more and more in love. No matter how much pain they put you through, you'd do it all over again for your sweet baby.
