Adorable Baby Kangaroo Embraces Police Officer As His New Mom

The bond between a child and a parent is an important and essential one. This applies to the animal kingdom just as much as it does to humans.

Unfortunately, tragedy can sometimes strike, leaving baby animals without a mother to care for them. But on the upside, there are hundreds of stories of these babies finding surrogates in the form of animal rescue workers and even other creatures — as with these dogs who adopted two baby ducklings.

Constable Scott Mason had only been working in the Cue Police Station in Western Australia for a couple of weeks when an adorable baby kangaroo was brought in.

Tragically, the kangaroo had lost its mother and was now entirely on its own in the world. But Constable Mason was not going to let this baby go neglected. In fact, he and the kangaroo have formed a heartwarming bond that is sure to put a smile on any animal lover's face.

Scroll through below for a look at this one-of-a-kind human-animal relationship, and then watch the video to see exactly what this baby thinks about his new policeman friend.

The Cue Police Department in Western Australia received quite the surprise when a 4-month-old kangaroo was dropped off on their doorstep.

The baby had recently lost its mother in a truck accident, and had been discovered inside of its mom's pouch.

The kangaroo and Constable Scott Mason took an immediate liking to one another.

Perth Now reported that Constable Mason told the Australian Associated Press, "It's very dehydrated and skinny, but we're doing what we can."

The police officer had just moved to Cue to join the police force, temporarily leaving a wife and baby of his own back in Perth.

Perhaps it was his recent arrival into parenthood that made him say, "Because it needs to be fed every three hours, it's going to be my little child."

The baby had no problem with that. In fact, he began treating Constable Mason just like a mother, even going so far as to use his police uniform as a mom's pouch.

While caring for the kangaroo and coordinating with animal rescues, the officer put out a call on social media to name the little guy.

He said, "I was going to name it after my son, but my missus wasn't too happy about that, so we thought we'd put it out for everyone else to name the 'Cue Roo.'"

After much public debate, Constable Mason and the Cue Police Station decided on the name "Cuejo," a combination of the town name and the word "joey" (which is the name for a baby kangaroo).

The baby now seems to love his new name and his surrogate parent. He follows Constable Mason around and climbs into his "pouch" whenever possible.

With Constable Mason and the entire Cue community watching out for him, little Cuejo will soon receive the care and attention he needs from animal rescue workers, along with a bright and healthy future ahead.

Watch the video below for a closer look at just how much the pair has bonded.
