Now that school is back in session for most kids across the country, parents are experiencing that bittersweet moment they say goodbye to the little one at the bus stop on their first day.
Unfortunately for Florida mom Marquis Holton, her 7-year-old special needs daughter was denied that right when classes began this year. Payton Young transferred to Bunche Park Elementary School last year and has made incredible improvement with her speaking and developmental therapies, but her mom couldn't believe it when she was suddenly left without her usual ride.
Instead, the girl's grandmother has been forced to juggle Payton and her cousins back and forth between several different schools across the Miami-Dade area.
After calling the transportation department, Marquis was told that budget cutbacks were to blame and that they simply didn't have the funds for a route that would only pick up one child.
However, that didn't make much sense considering there was another special needs child in the neighborhood whose transportation remained unaffected.
Marquis tells her local ABC News 10 in the clip below, "She is the same just as everybody else, and I feel like she deserves the same privilege as any other child." She was also able to overhear other parents complaining about similar issues while in the school's office attempting to fix the situation.
Take a look below to hear more on how they finally came to a solution.
