Like a lot of animals, many horses and ponies are measured by their worth. When a working horse is no longer useful to an owner, because of age or health, they usually give up the animal in one way or another.
For a horse handler, Bonny the pony was a prime candidate for slaughter. After the Welsh pony was hit by a car, she didn't receive proper medical care and her broken neck healed disfigured. When Bonny's owner feared for her safety, she knew it was time to give her up. No one wanted Bonny, so that's exactly why Jill McCullogh took her in.
Over time, Bonny put on weight and Jill thought that it was from finally having a healthy diet, but a friend notified her that the horse was pregnant. Bonny gave birth to a healthy male foal a few weeks later!
