20 Weird And Totally Relatable Real Reasons Pregnant Women Get Mad At Their Spouses

There is literally nothing out there that can prepare you for pregnancy. Reason being, every single pregnancy is different. Some moms-to-be get morning sickness, others breeze through their pregnancy feeling better than ever. But, there's one thing in common with all of them — emotions are involved. As women, our bodies are making changes and doing things that we have no control over. Also? Hormones exist.

When I was pregnant, I tried hard to keep my cool. Sure, he had the opportunity to leave the house without worrying about sore hips or nose sensitivities. But it wasn't his fault. That said, some partners really do push the buttons of the mom-to-be unknowingly. They may understand that a baby is on the way, but they have no clue how tiresome of a process that is — especially with limited caffeine.  Many pregnant women got mad at their spouses for valid reasons and took it to the internet for others to weigh in.

Here's the best thing: After the pregnancy and a few months after the baby arrives, life will eventually go back to normal. Things will adjust, there'll be more confidence all around in regards to parenting, and you'll finally be able to leave the house without feeling like your babysitter will accidentally break your baby. But most of all? Fights like this will have been long forgotten. Hopefully.

Here are 20 real reasons why pregnant women got mad at their spouses. Some are funny, while others are just plain alarming.

1. Failure To Unwrap The Contact Lens Solution

As someone who also has contact lenses, I know the struggle of getting the tiny yet oddly thick safety seal off the bottle. This pregnant wife became livid when her husband didn't help remove that step for her, even though he claims he was already in the middle of helping her out.

“I was folding her laundry, rushed to help her out, and I think she should’ve been able to see that and just let my little mistake go,” said Redditor WWCarlWinslowD. “I told her that if our roles were reversed, and I was in the shower, I’d see her in the middle of folding my laundry and think ‘Who cares if she forgot to open the wrapping, she’s doing my laundry.’ You know?”

2. Not Getting Pregnancy Snacks

It's not fair to boss around your husband just because you're pregnant. That said, it's also important for husbands to realize how severe these cravings can be. This couple got into a big fight since he only went out to get her snacks around 70% of the time.

"The last few times she has asked me to go and buy one of her cravings I’ve refused," Redditor Serious_Amphibian said. "Yesterday at about this time she wanted me to get her yogurt with fudge nuts and all this stuff from this yogurt place like 25 mins away. I refused, she kept asking and said I’m just unsupportive and a sucky husband." Sounds uncomfortable for both parties.

3. Snoring

We all snore sometimes. But when you're pregnant, and it's hard enough to sleep as-is, any sort of additional noise or complication may lead to a completely sleepless night. As a bonus, these nights will be perfect practice for when the baby arrives. But, they're still hard to deal with, especially if your home doesn't have a spare bedroom or comfy couch.

4. Accidental Body Shaming

Let's hope this guy meant to make a joke and apologized profusely when it wasn't taken that way.  Women's bodies change a ton while they're pregnant. Spouses with pregnant partners, let this be a warning — tell your significant other how beautiful she is, and how incredible it is to have her carry your child.

5. Having Different Ideas Regarding Pregnancy

If you've never been pregnant, you may have no idea that deli meat is often restricted during pregnancy. Reason being, it may be susceptible to listeria, which can cause damage to the baby. But for pregnant women who need to completely revamp their life, that news can be hard to hear. One husband on Reddit complained that his wife didn't believe in risks, saying, "The idea that she can't eat deli meat or drink a small amount of alcohol is ridiculous to her," adding "now I'm worried that she's becoming skeptical about her doctor." This is a common fight, with many sides. (But overall, a doctor's recommendation is the best way to go.)

6. The Miscommunication

While fights can be tough, they can also be hilarious. When you're heavily pregnant, even getting up off a chair can become something that requires additional effort. Hopefully, these two had a good laugh after everything was said and done. (And hey, we all need this kind of support sometimes — pregnant or not.)

7. The Not-So-Supportive Husband

One of the hardest things about pregnancy is that drinking isn't allowed. Of course, nobody needs alcohol — and the break may be good for our health anyway. But, sometimes you really just want a beer. While some husbands choose to abstain along with their wives, this husband happened to take the opposite approach.

8. The Stressed Out Mom Of Triplets

This one is a complete yikes. Found on Reddit in the AITA thread, user Iagreewithu__ shocked the internet when he posted that his wife, who was pregnant with triplets, started having terrible self-esteem. "Pregnancy has made her really insecure, paranoid and mental," he said. "So yesterday, she called me when I was at work and told me she was really ugly and I should find myself someone beautiful and better than her. I've told her many times not to call me at work unless it was an emergency and I've told her many times that she's very beautiful. So I agreed with her and told her that she was ugly." Yep — not the greatest solution there, buddy.

9. Serving As The King Of Grammar

Pregnant women also need to be on the lookout for contractions. If they happen to early, that can be a scary reality. But even if they're right on time, a lot is going through her mind. This is literally the moment of truth. So, it's probably not a good time to hit her with some grammar jokes, as funny as they may be.

10. Cold Steaks

OK, so sometimes cravings can get a little out of hand. Usually, January isn't the best month to take the grill for a spin. However, it seems like this guy had absolutely no choice in the matter. At the very least, he got a pretty funny memory out of it. (And hopefully, those steaks were everything his wife desired.)

11. Being A Garbage Husband

Redditor thegarbagemoon got an earful after he posted his story. His pregnant wife was hauling the trash out, and was humiliated that her husband didn't help her with it. Pregnant women can't carry a lot, and they shouldn't be around cat litter — which was part of the garbage. "This last Saturday she came up to me and said, very angry, 'Why did you put a bunch of wine boxes on top of the garage trash can?' She was mad because she uses the garage trash can for the cat litter and she came out with a bag of cat litter and she had to move everything around to get into the trash," he wrote. "I said I didn’t even think and I was sorry if it was an issue."

Supposedly, she got help from strangers when it became an issue. "She blew up and told me about how she went to the dump and a bunch of guys saw her moving heavy bags and boxes, and ran to come help her. They all were very critical of me, according to her, saying that a real man would be taking care of his pregnant wife instead of sitting on the couch." They kind of have a point there.

12. Failure To Bake

Of course this is a strange combination, but pregnancy does weird things to your taste buds. It'd be interesting to figure out how this husband navigated around the issue. Maybe he made regular brownies with mashed-up chickpeas as a filler? Or, maybe he managed to talk her out of it. Hopefully the latter.

13. Making Them Feel Less Sexy

Future fathers out there, remember: Never comment negatively on a pregnant woman's body. Never ask questions about a pregnant woman's body to a pregnant woman, such as "will they always be so droopy?" And never — and I mean never — make her feel as if her new body isn't sexy. A lot of apologizing probably had to be done after this mistake.

14. Getting The Wrong Pie

Redditor fallonharrod crossposted a story about a pregnant wife who lost it after her husband brought home the wrong pie. While it seems like something a pregnant woman may cry over, the wife went a little overboard with her reaction. "Yesterday she wanted Apple pies from a&w and they happened to be out, so I got her her next favourite one which is blackberry," they wrote. "When I got home and gave them to her, her face kind of fell and I tried to explain what happened but she quickly interrupted me and called me useless again."

Pregnant ladies, remember. Being pregnant isn't a reason to be abusive. Your hormones might be crazy and you might be in a lot of pain, but you still need to apologize and take responsibility for your actions.

15. He Asked Too Many Questions

That one was harsh, but this one is slightly funnier. This guy's wife had to pull him aside in class since he asked too many questions. Since the topic was breastfeeding, that makes a little more sense — it seems like a real Michael Scott thing to do. Still, a good husband will try to be supportive any way he can, even if it's a little cringeworthy to the people around him.

16. He Wasn't Knowledgeable On Produce

There are a lot of different lettuces out there, and this guy tried his hardest. Plus, "butter on lettuce" seems like a crazy enough request for a pregnant woman. Maybe she just wants the sweetness of butter with the crispy crunch of lettuce. Regardless, hopefully this guy learned his lesson for next time. (And maybe his wife learned to be a tad bit more specific.)

17. Not Switching Bed Sides

Back when I was pregnant, I read that I was supposed to sleep on my left hand side, which was a challenge. But, switching sides of the bed made it easier. A Redditor named somesmallclue straight out refused to switch, and didn't see how he was wrong in his decision-making. "All I'm asking for is to keep my side of the bed," he wrote. "But my wife insists that if I don't give her my side of the bed that it means I hate her and the unborn baby. No amount of my trying to show and tell her how much I care about her and the baby will change her mind."

18. Cry Baby

Pregnant women get extremely emotional. In fact, it even lasts after the pregnancy. I fondly remember tearing up at every diaper commercial that aired right after I brought my daughter home. I even cried a year later, when the same diaper commercial aired but my own newborn baby was much bigger. I called it "our commercial." For the record, this all happened when my husband was at work. Mocking someone for their emotions just isn't cool.

19. No Dogs Allowed

Dogs are a fantastic addition to any family — that is, any family that's not already expecting a new arrival. Redditor strikerH91918 accidentally made his wife cry when he put his foot down regarding a new dog.

"Last night, I got home and she ran over to me to show me a dog she found at a nearby shelter, that she made an appointment to go meet it on my next day off and asking me if I think we should change its name," he wrote. "Maybe I was a little off with my reaction because I was tired, but I kinda laughed and said 'why would I get you a dog when I already got you this?' and put my hand on her belly. I know it was in poor taste but it was clearly in good fun. She slapped my hand away, called me an asshole and started crying, hard."

20. He Failed To Bring Food Home

The No. 1 rule of married couples, aside from loving each other and staying loyal to each other, is to never get fast food and bring it home if you don't plan on buying some for your spouse. If your spouse happens to be pregnant? Order even more. Redditor MoistTowlette19 was mad when her husband failed to bring any Mexican food home for her, and vented about it to the BabyBumps community. "It really displayed a lack of caring for me," she said. "A lack of attention. A lack of love."
