School Makes Students Draw Names Out Of A Hat, Matches Them Up With Random Prom Dates

With prom season just beginning, many teens are planning out every detail of their special night.

One of those key decisions? Whom they will be attending prom with!

But while teens across the country are coming up with special and sometimes exhilarating promposals, the teens at Aquin Catholic High School leave their dates up to fate.

The school has a tradition: Students don't get to pick their prom dates. Instead, they pull another student's name out of a hat!

Many would expect the young men and women to be outraged by the proposal, but the students insist that they're on board with the tradition. They love it! They say that this allows prom to become more of a group outing. There aren't many students in each graduating class — about 30 or so, so they all know one another. To them, prom is much more fun if they end up taking a random peer!

The tradition also fosters a sense of belonging. If there is an odd number of students, one lucky boy or girl will have not just one, but two dates!

What do you think about this way of choosing a prom date? Do you think your teen's high school should try this too?

Please SHARE if you think this is a healthy way to include every student in prom!
