Like many Fourth of July celebrators, Rachel Taylor wanted to sport clothing with an American flag imprint. But it’s not her patriotism that’s going viral; it’s the message she's sending to weight critics that's getting the attention.
Taylor posted a picture of herself in an American flag T-shirt along with a lengthy caption on Old Navy’s Facebook page thanking the retailer for making clothes “for all shapes and sizes.” She went on to explain why she’d be wearing it the following day for the federal holiday – and her words have been liked and shared by thousands.
“Today I was shopping in Old Navy, standing in between a teenage girl and her mom. The girl picked up a plus-size tank top, showed it to her mom and said, ‘Look! Me and So-and-so can fit in this tank top!’ Her mom laughed and said, ‘Yeah, you could! That thing is huge!’ ” she wrote about her experience in a Louisiana location.
The words, which many women often hear on a daily basis, left Taylor in tears. But, after much crying in her car, she gathered the courage to go back into Old Navy and continue shopping.
“I ended up buying that tank top because, it turns out, I look fierce in it!” she wrote.
She also included one main message: “Be kind. Think about others before you speak. And if someone hurts you, you have to move on.”

An Old Navy customer named Rachel Taylor shared a powerful message on the company's Facebook page and it's now gaining a lot of attention.

"Today I was shopping in Old Navy, standing in between a teenage girl and her mom. The girl picked up a plus-size tank top, showed it to her mom and said, 'Look! Me and So-and-so can fit in this tank top!' Her mom laughed and said, 'Yeah, you could! That thing is huge!'" she wrote.
"I couldn't help it; I started crying. I guess the girl and her mom walked away. I have no idea. My husband walked me out of the store to the car. I sat in the car crying for a long time but eventually went back inside to finish my shopping. I ended up buying that tank top because, it turns out, I look fierce in it!"
Her final message: "Be kind. Think about others before you speak. And if someone hurts you, you have to move on."
Some fellow Old Navy customers agreed with her view on the clothing company.

Other Facebook users commended her for sharing her story in this way.

But, Taylor also received some criticism, to which she responded with another strong message.
