With Halloween around the corner, you may think that dressing up in a costume is only allowed on October 31, but one retired couple is proving every day is a good day to wear a costume!
Steven and Millie live in California and were inspired by their daughter, who began doing something called cosplay 1o years ago. Cosplay, meaning "costume play," is a hobby where participants dress up as characters from movies, TV shows, comics, and anything else with a character.
Three years ago, they finally followed in their daughter's footsteps and started dressing up. After getting a positive response from others, they continued!
"At first it was all the attention from fans taking our picture, as we're both very shy to begin with," Steven told LittleThings. "Cosplaying has given us more confidence, and now it's more about meeting new fans and making new friends and being more social."

Steven and Millie first got into the art of cosplay or costume play because of their daughter, who has been dressing as characters for over 10 years.
Here, Steven and Millie dressed up as characters from the Disney movie Zootopia in October 2016.
"We [also] weren't sure how people would react to us as an older Asian couple … but many have welcomed us and … we are feeling more comfortable and have gained more new friends," they told Mashable about dressing up.

As fans of Comic-Con —a convention for comic book lovers and superheroes — the retired couple dressed as Wonder Woman and Steve Trevor.
"Most everything is in our closet already or thrift store stuff," they wrote on their Facebook page.

Anna and Kristoff from Frozen came to life in July 2017 when the couple dressed as the famous Disney movie pair.
"Millie made her cosplay apron, Steven decorated the Kristoff 'snow' outfit, Millie sewed on the fur and made my sash belt," the couple wrote online.
No movie or TV show costume is too hard to make. The pair has done many animated outfits as well as live-action costumes too.

In the spring of 2017, the retired couple dressed as Mary Poppins and Bert — how spot-on are they?!
About the costumes, Steven wrote on Facebook:
Millie did sew the cummerbund/belt and a cover for my braces/suspenders. I painted the black Poppins hat and decorated it with flowers and cherries. Pins and bow tie from Pinup Girl and Etsy, Jolly Holiday material from Spoonflower.

Since they're a couple, it's easy for Steven and Millie to dress as iconic pairs.
Here, Steven is the 11th Doctor from Doctor Who and Millie is the Doctor's companion, Amy.
Since they couldn't lug the big blue Tardis around from the show, Millie had an ingenious way to incorporate it into their costume.

Here, Millie created the famous Tardis from Doctor Who on a $9 umbrella, using paint.
Every detail of items from the original show or movie is put into the couple's costumes.
Good thing they're retired, because it can take up to two months to make a costume — which Millie sews.

To celebrate their 27th wedding anniversary, the couple dressed as Carl and Ellie from the Disney film UP.
Back in 2014, those costumes were their very first time dressing up as characters to attend Halloween events at Disneyland.
"Since we sort of look like Carl and Ellie, we decided to try our hand with something simple," they told Mashable. "We got a marvelous reaction from guests … and thus began our cosplaying career."

The retired couple dressed up as Han Solo and General Leia Organa from Star Wars and posed with Chewbacca — they look straight off a movie set!
