Homeowner Uses Dog, Empty Box To Set Up Booby Trap For Package Thieves

Around the holiday season, it's not unusual for there to be a surge in thefts in neighborhoods around the country.

When packages are left outside and unattended, thieves assume there are valuables inside and take them. Repeat offenders often hit the same homes over and over again, too, as California homeowner Bryan Nalette knows all too well.

The first time he was stolen from, he assumed that a delivery error was to blame for the missing box. But after noticing that the cardboard itself looked tampered with, he decided to install a security camera to catch the alleged perpetrators in action.

But a camera wouldn't actually stop them from taking what was his, so he decided to set up a trap of his own making, with the hope that it would deter them from taking his packages.

By attaching the box on one end of the string and a bell on the other, he propped up an empty package against the outside of the front door with the bell resting on a ledge inside his house, just on the other side. This way, should anyone move the box, the bell would sound off!

But Nalette took his ruse a little further when he filled the decoy box with his dog's poop!

He turned in the images his camera captured to the authorities.
