Rose McGowan Quits Acting To Become Pop Music’s Newest Star

If you would have told me the pop star in the music video for this song, "RM486," was one of my favorite childhood actresses, I wouldn't believe you.

But, ah, it's true. Rose McGowan — of Charmed, Scream, The Doom Generation, and Jawbreaker — has quit acting not just to make her directorial debut, but also to become the world's newest creepy pop star.

“I woke up one day and realized I hated acting — and that I’d always hated it,” she says. “Imagine, it's predominantly men whose scripts get done, so it was mostly a male voice coming out of my mouth for 15 years.”

No, she's not The Fame Monster era Lady Gaga, her sound is a bit more moody than that. (Although she has borrowed former-Gaga music video collaborator, director Jonas Akerland.)

Her look may be a cross between OG Gaga and former-beaux Marilyn Manson, but McGowan is carving out a musical identity that feels like more of a cross between Björk and Kylie Minogue with her own unique twist.

McGowan says each character in the bizarre new video is her. “All are pieces that make up my whole—an artist, a public figure, and most importantly, as a person. I’m pushing back at the idea of what I am supposed to be. I want to expose people to art in a real way, and I want to change the idea of what beauty is. There is true power in art and true power in we who believe in it.”
