When Carla Hunter named her baby girl Faith, she had her own personal reasons. The 45-year-old mother became pregnant with her after years of trying and giving up on having a child. Little did Carla know that her daughter's name would soon mean much more. On New Year's Eve, minutes before midnight, Faith began throwing up. The 5-week-old baby girl began to bleed through her nose. Then she stopped breathing.
"I honestly thought I lost her," Carla told KETV's Alexandria Stone. "Because she was lifeless." The distraught mother called 911. A dispatcher walked her through CPR, but Faith was still completely unresponsive. It was a miracle that veteran officers TJ Jacik and Steve Walter were the ones who answered the call the night.
"When we arrived, the baby was limp," Officer Jacik said. "It was not reacting to anything at that point." The officers raced to perform infant CPR. Faith began breathing, and after a trip to the hospital is now home with Mommy.
"I'm a grandfather," Officer Walter said. "My granddaughter was a preemie and right away that kind of reminded me that could be my child, my granddaughter."
The officers even waited at the hospital so that they could see Faith's health restored.
"She's meant to be here," Carla said. "Me and her both have someone watching over us."
