As adults, it can be challenging to learn new hobbies. We're usually all pretty set in our ways, but that doesn't mean we should hold ourselves back from branching out every now and then. There's nothing stopping you from finding your zen with some fancy yoga moves or mastering the ancient art of Taekwondo. As long as you put in the time and hard work, you'll be able to tackle anything you set your mind to.
Take this talented young woman, for example. At 22, long after most of us pick up a new instrument, she decided to teach herself the violin. She started with an instructor but, after eight lessons, wasn't satisfied with their methods. So instead, she spent the next two and a half years reading and creating her own lesson plan. She also recorded her process each week, compiling the clips together for this video showing her incredible progress.
Things start out pretty rocky at first. Her violin doesn't seem to be exactly in the right key, but it's easy to hear her skill grow as she perseveres with each practice. Among the traditional Beethoven tunes and classic jigs, she dips her bow into pop culture with some covers of the Pirates of the Caribbean theme, a Lord of the Rings medley, and the familiar jingle from Mario Brothers games.
By the end of the video, she has definitely developed a knack for the instrument. She's even replaced the old wooden version with a snazzy new electric violin!
