We know dogs love belly rubs. Cats, too. Heck, we've even seen pigs who can't get enough of 'em. But this right here? It's like nothing I've ever seen before.
It was a pretty normal day for the aquarium technician at the Aquarium des Lagons in Nouméa, New Caledonia. He's busy doing his job, when all of the sudden, a zebra shark swims along and interrupts him. At first, I was nervous and had no idea the shark's intention. But moments later, my jaw dropped.
As it turns out, this shark loves belly rubs more than anything in the world! The way he interacts with the human is breathtaking, and it's more like he's a puppy than some "ferocious" sea creature.
I loved watching the technician taking a break from his duties to show some love to this adorable, smiley shark. Apparently, these two have this down to a daily routine, and the shark can always count on his human friend to indulge in some friendly pets and cuddles.
The World Conservation Union says zebra sharks are a vulnerable species worldwide, as they are taken by commercial fisheries across for meat, fins, and liver oil. There is evidence that its numbers are dwindling.
