There’s an unusual new beauty treatment in Japan that may make some people uncomfortable.
For women who aren’t willing to undergo some crazy plastic surgery procedures, there’s a ton of skin treatments they can try. They can even make some natural products at home, including the turmeric and yogurt face mask. Now there's also the option for a snail facial.
Yes, you read that right. This interesting treatment entails live snails crawling on the skin as seen in the video below.
The snail’s slime is believed to contain proteins, antioxidants, and hyaluronic acid, which all help the skin look younger.
After trying the facial for the first time, the reporter in the video below says, “Actually, it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. It was actually quiet relaxing after a while.”
But, there was one downfall: “The only part that I really didn’t like was when I opened my eyes and I could see their little tentacles out of the corner of my eyes,” she says.
While it might sound strange, snails have long been used for medical reasons. According to The Telegraph, notable Greek physician Hippocrates mixed molluscs with sour milk to treat skin irritation in 400BC. Today, there are also several skin care products using snail mucus.
