Teacher Interviews Boy After He Wins Award, But He Has No Clue Military Dad Is Right Behind Him

For Bryce Beach, an award ceremony at school turned into an unforgettable surprise, one that involved a reunion with his soldier dad that was a long time coming.

For a young boy, a dad can be a mentor, an idol, and a best friend.

So for third-grader Bryce, being without his dad was a real downer.

Of course, for him and many other boys with fathers in the military, being without Dad for a long period of time is a reality.

Beach's dad had been away the last six months, deployed with his fellow members of the National Guard in the Middle East.

But this young boy from Jefferson County, Colorado, was in for a big surprise.

During an assembly at his school, the third-grader was being honored with an award for Jump Rope for Heart, with a teacher interviewing him in front of the rest of the school.

She asked Beach if his award was "cool."

The young boy, perhaps taking notice of something being amiss, replied shyly.

"I bet it's not as cool as this," she said. "Turn around!"

With a little assist from his teacher, Beach turned around and was instantly surprised by the face of his soldier dad, who had crouched to meet his son's eyes the moment he spun.

Their reunion is both heartwarming and patriotic, because before the event took place, the students were given miniature American flags to wave.
