My heart was racing as I watched this next video, called A Street Dog's Life.
There are currently an estimated 70 million stray dogs in America. Yet there are very few solutions beyond adoption and sterilization.
While Turkey invented a vending machine system that feeds hungry strays (humans simply insert a recyclable water bottle, which triggers the machine to dispense dog food), many countries are still without such clever solutions.
This video was created (not with a stray dog, but with a camera and video editing software to look like a stray dog) by World For Animal Care & Adoptions, a Mumbai-based NGO and animal welfare organization.
In the footage, the dog drinks dirty water, rummages through trash for food, and encounters a few human beings that I would like to give a piece of my mind…
The last scene of the video is so heartbreaking, even more so than the events that precede it.
All I can say is that I literally gasped. If this doesn't make you want to help the millions of stray dogs left to fend for themselves around the world, I don't know what will.
Watch the short film to see what a day in a street dog's life is like.
