Tallan Latz is an 8-year-old boy who dreams of becoming the next Jimi Hendrix or Stevie Ray Vaughn. Most kids his age, even most kids older than him, don't know who those rock and roll legends are, but Tallan hopes to play like them.
He's not just interested in rock and roll. Tallan's specific interest is in playing the blues — and boy, does he play them well.
"He is an old soul," said Carl Latz, his father and manager says. "When you watch him play the blues, you can see he really feels it."
Prodigies are more common than you might think; this 4-year-old drummer can already play an entire Bruno Mars song.
Tallan began playing music when he was just three years. He started with a drum, but when he was 5, he picked up a guitar and began to get serious.
"It might go back to when he was still in the womb," Carl said. "We did some of that Mozart effect thing, where we played music to him with pillow speakers before he was born."
Carl says what Tallan decides to do is totally up to him. If he wants to quit someday, he will support him. If not, he will stand by Tallan.
When he puts down the guitar he is just like any other kid.
"My most favorite thing, besides playing the guitar, is reading," he said. "I like to read chapter books like The Magic Tree House and Junie B. Jones."
But the real reason behind Tallan's passion for music? "I like to make people smile and help them forget about everyday life," Tallan said. How beautiful.
