If you're afraid of spiders, you are either going to be more afraid after watching this, or realize that they can be gentle, (and possibly fun) creatures, that really mean us no harm. In Western societies, it is said that as many as 55% of females, and 18% of males are estimated to experience arachnophobia (source: wikipedia). While all spiders contain venom, in most cases, this venom is only harmful to their food (insects, birds, some mammals and reptiles). Only about a dozen species of spiders have venom that is actually harmful to humans – the tarantula, which most humans would recognize is one of them.
Now if you ask me, I really don't think that a spider is a "pet," or that you should have one around the house, but tarantulas have been increasing in popularity as pets and are readily available for sale in captivity, which begs the question: Would you ever consider having a tarantula live in your home? My answer is a big fat NO FREAKING WAY.
