There's nothing quite as delicious as a bowl of warm pasta and homemade tomato sauce — but prepping tons of tomatoes can be an arduous process. There are many times I've found myself scrapping my recipes in favor of heading to the store to pick up some jars of ready-made sauce. But no more!
In the video below, Food & Wine Test Kitchen whiz Justin Chapple demos a genius trick for making your own homemade tomato sauce that's simple, fresh, and yummy — not to mention, it requires no cooking, blanching, no peeling, no muss, and no fuss. According to Justin, all you need to do is gently take a ripe tomato to a regular cheese grater, without having to peel off the skin or dice the tomato itself. The grater naturally peels the tomato for you, and all you're left with is a super thin tomato skin, down to its finest edge.
Other ingredients include salt, pepper, and a bit of olive oil. Even better? This sauce is ready in mere minutes! What an excellent idea. I'm trying this recipe tonight, and I can't wait!
