Nia and Robert Tolbert from Waldorf, Maryland, were your average couple who were happily raising their son, Shai. As it turned out, though, the lovebirds were just beginning their road to parenthood.
In 2014, the couple officially got married and soon discovered that Nia was pregnant for a second time. They were ecstatic about growing their family and giving their son a little brother or sister.
When they went to the doctor for the sonogram, the Tolberts were told that Nia was actually pregnant with twin boys. And in 2015, they welcomed two baby boys, Riley and Alexander.
At that point, the couple felt as though their family was likely complete, because even though they loved every minute of it, it was hard work raising three boys. But just as they were getting comfortable, life threw them quite a curveball.
Nia went to the doctor for a routine checkup and was told some life-changing news that she wasn’t sure how she was going to tell her husband.
She decided to put together a little gift package for him to open that would showcase just how their life was about to change for the better.
When she gave the package to her husband, Robert explained to ABC News that he was expecting a Fitbit. Instead, it was a note that read, “Please accept this gift from me and God.” He opened the gift bag and saw a very long sonogram and three little onesies. It could only mean one thing.
