Woman Mourning The Loss Of Her Husband Brings Her Pet Turkey On A Plane For Support

When you think about a service animal, chances are that you're thinking about dogs — they tend to be the most common form of emotional and physical support. Even mini horses can be helpful! But have you ever heard about a pet turkey who also happens to be a service animal?

Jodie Smalley has had Easter, her 25-pound turkey, since she was a chick. Easter has been with Jodie her whole life, and now, Jodie is relying on her for emotional support: her husband passed away from cancer just three months ago. Now, Jodie needs to fly to San Francisco to spread some of his ashes.

To get there, Jodie needs to take a plane. And having Easter isn't stopping her — she has all the required paperwork to get the turkey through security and on the plane. People marvel at the bird and take pictures, while others aren't so ecstatic about it.

People boarding a Delta flight were shocked to see an uncommon passenger: a 25-pound turkey named Easter.

Some passengers on the two-hour flight weren't bothered by Easter's presence. Others, on the other hand, were.

But because she provided all the necessary documentation to prove that Easter was, in fact, a service animal, the turkey was allowed to fly with her grateful owner.

Jodie and Easter made it safely to San Francisco. Hopefully the bird will be able to provide all the support her owner needs!
