Back in the 70s, a millionaire named Girard “Jerry” B. Henderson was convinced that the USSR was planning a nuclear attack against the United States. To ease his mind, Girard came up with the only solution he could think of — he built himself a safe house in the form of a jaw-dropping bunker located directly underneath his Las Vegas house.
Looking at the two-story house from afar, you'd never know the secret 26-feet beneath the soil. But hidden amongst the rocks and boulders is the entrance that leads to a shed, and then a stairway. Finally, you make your way down to the 15,200-square-foot subterranean basement 26 feet underground. The nostalgic features are endless: a green lawn, jacuzzi, fireplace, artificial trees, a cleverly hidden barbecue, hot tubs, and hand-painted murals designed to make it feel like you're standing outside. Girard even installed lighting that simulates a starry night sky. There are also three bedrooms, three bathrooms, and a stunning pink vintage kitchen that looks like it's straight out of the 1950s.
In 2013, the house was put up for on sale for nearly two million bucks. Think you could live in a place like this?
