Entrepreneur and artist Patrick Chirico has made a career of buying and selling records, but not one of them is meant to be listened to!
From Jim Morrison and Bob Dylan to the Grateful Dead, these records all share one thing in common: They're all too warped or too scratched up to be properly played anymore. But while most people would throw these destroyed records away, Chirico transforms these musical discs into popular jewelry, clocks, art, and other objects.
Not only are these items fun for Brooklyn buyers, but by upcycling these doomed records he's helping the environment out too by keeping the vinyl out of garbage dumps! The chemicals in these common objects don't easily biodegrade and can end up staying in local landfills for hundreds of years.
Named "Wrecords by Monkey," this ingenious store is taking great strides in reducing their carbon footprint. Chirico proudly spoke of his store before telling cameras, "We took all the ones that don't work… Why create new things in this world when there's so much that can be done with old materials that have been discarded?"
Not only do these inventions look cool, but they're good for the environment as well! Make sure to let us know what you think of this interesting upcycling idea in the comments below!
