Divorced Mom Removes Diamonds From Her Wedding Band To Make A Beautiful Necklace For Daughter

Getting a divorce is never easy, especially when there are children involved.

Even if you know it's the right decision for everyone, it can still be absolutely heartbreaking. Children often struggle to deal with their parents' breakups, even if it's better for their parents.

Of course, divorce can lead to some beautiful life changes, like stepparents and new siblings. That doesn't mean it isn't still difficult for the family.

Devin Petit grew up with divorced parents, but she always knew how much her mom and dad loved her.

Her mom, Karen Beardsley, wanted to give Devin a special gift for her 21st birthday, and she knew just what to do.

She got the diamonds removed from her old wedding band and put them into a beautiful necklace. When Devin received the present, she understood just how meaningful it was.

Devin shared a picture of the necklace online, and it immediately got a ton of attention.

Karen Beardsley and her ex-husband got divorced more than 10 years ago.

Her daughter, Devin, was raised by both parents, who live nearby one another in Erie, Pennsylvania.

Devin told BuzzFeed News:

My parents always maintained an amicable relationship and were really conscious of me and how I felt and always put me first. Throughout my childhood they lived very close to each other and I spent near equal amount of time with both of them.

For an early 21st birthday present, Karen gave Devin a beautiful necklace with three diamonds in it.

The diamonds, it turns out, came from Karen's old wedding band.

Devin shared a picture of her new necklace on Twitter, where it got a lot of attention.

Within just five days, the picture got over 270,000 likes and over 28,000 retweets.

People immediately started commenting on the tweet, writing about how sweet the gift was.

One girl wrote: "My mom did this too! I got it for my 16th birthday. Yours is gorgeous, girly!"

It turns out that a lot of divorced parents think this is a great use of wedding bands.

Would you ever think of doing something like this?

Some people commended their own single parents in comments.

The gift Devin got from her mom was so meaningful.

One commenter wrote, "That's actually the most beautiful thing."

Some divorced parents even chimed in. One mom wrote:

I did the same thing with my diamond from my engagement ring. Turned it into a pendant and gave it to my daughter last week on her wedding shower. She will wear it walking down the aisle as a reminder of the love that created her. Love your necklace.
