When Steve and Derek adopted Esther, they were told that she was a mini pig. Within a few weeks, it became apparant that Esther was anything but mini! As Esther started to grow, her two dads decided that they loved her more than their current lifestyle, and wanted to give her the best life possible. That meant they had to move, because their beloved Esther has grown to over 500 pounds!
While people who don't own pets might think Steve and Derek did something crazy, anyone who has ever loved an animal might be shaking their heads in recognition. Sometimes, you'll do anything for your pet – no matter what the cost.
After launching a successful IndiGoGo campaign, Steve and Derek were able to move and create The Happily Ever Esther Sanctuary, a farm where other animals like Esther will be able to live their lives in peace. Additionally, Steve and Derek have become big supporters of the vegan lifestyle, and of treating animals with respect and kindness.
While veganism isn't for everyone, knowing where your meat comes from is something everyone can do! Pigs are incredibly smart and emotional animals, and none of them should have to go through the torment of traditional slaughterhouses. After you see Esther smiling, you might just want to change your ways!
