Woman Leaves Her Phone Charger In A Cab So She Can Work Up The Courage To Ask Out The Driver

Kelli Amirah, a college student at Howard University in Washington, DC, recently had an interesting experience during a night out with her friends. On Saturday, December 3, 2016, Kelli and her friends got ready to go out together.

To get to the party, Kelli and her friends decided to take an Uber — the car service you can request on your phone through an app. When the driver arrived, he called Kelli to let her know he was outside. Kelli told her friends that his voice sounded really attractive.

When they walked out to the car, her friend got in the front seat and Kelli got in the back. She texted her friend from one seat away, telling her that she was thinking about asking the driver out on a date.

"So there's minor small talk in the car, nothing major, And our destination is quickly approaching," Kelli explained on Twitter of how the story started to unfold.

Her friend suggested that Kelli should leave something behind so that she would have a reason to contact him after the ride.

On Twitter, Kelli wrote, "So like we [are] pulling up to the spot and I don't know what to do. So then I spur of the moment accidentally on-purpose leave my charger behind."

Kelli pretended that she was upset about leaving the phone charger behind, but she was secretly thrilled.

Half an hour later, Kelli opened the Uber app to contact her driver about the "lost" item. She called his phone, but it went to voicemail, so she left a message.

The next morning, she still hadn't heard back from the driver. Eventually, he got in touch with her and they set up a time to meet.

Even though it was finals week and she was stressed and overworked, Kelli made time to dress up — she was planning on asking this man on a date, after all.

She got to his car and he handed her the charger. Finally, she worked out the nerve to ask him out. She wrote on Twitter, "So I say, 'Excuse me if this is really forward, but would you like to go out sometime?' And then he like chuckles and smiles, and says 'Text me.'"

Kelli was thrilled.

Until a while later, she got this text from the driver:

Needless to say, Kelli was pissed off. She couldn't believe that after her entire saga, this was how it ended.
