Graduations are emotional affairs for all who attend. It's not unheard of for tears to be shed by parents, friends, and even children, whether youngsters, teenagers, or college graduates of all levels.
For Zenas Nichols-Powell's friends and family, tears were shed for many reasons, primarily because the 14-year-old could not share his own graduation with them. Zenas, affectionately called 'Nas', was killed by stray bullets just a few weeks before we was set to receive his diploma from the Chester Community Charter School. The 8th grader was even going to receive a an award for physical education.
His family attended the graduation anyway. His father sat in his chair during the ceremony and accepted his diploma when Zenas' name was called. The crowd cheered and applauded, and the teen's family could not be more proud of him. His father openly cried when speaking about his son and how painful it was to lose him, but also how proud he was of all he accomplished. The family even received cards and notes of well-wishes at the ceremony.
Now watch the family's bittersweet moment captured on camera.
