When English comedian James Corden made his way across the pond to take over hosting duties for The Late Late Show, not many people in the audience knew exactly how many talents the funnyman had hiding behind his jokes.
You might be surprised to know Corden's career didn't get its start on the stand-up circuit, but rather as member of the original cast of The History Boys, which got its start in London before heading to Broadway in NYC.
That background definitely came in handy while he hosted the most recent Tony Awards, as well as every time he steps behind the wheel for a round of Carpool Karaoke! Still, audiences might not be aware of just how talented a singer Corden truly is.
Luckily, a few of his famous pals, a little group known as Coldplay, decided to invite him onstage during their show at the Rose Bowl in Los Angeles, CA.
Introducing him as one of the "original members" of the band, they pay homage to Prince with a cover of his hit song, "Nothing Compares 2 U." Without a car speaker or celebrity guest drowning him out, Corden is able to show off just how breathtaking his vocals are with the emotional ballad.
He and Martin sound beautiful when they begin their harmonies, and you can see how blown away Corden is by his birthday surprise at the very end.
