Sarah Hyland returned home from a recent stay in the ER without any clue as to why she'd been hospitalized.
The Modern Family star was rushed to the ER in June. She said she was "feeling like I was being choked" and thought that maybe there was "something medically wrong with me."

She's been very open with fans about all of it, and this recent hospitalization was no exception. But doctors never did figure out what, if anything, was wrong with her. Sarah explained what happened on her Instagram story. "I just got home from Friday night, they ran multiple tests multiple times, and there's nothing physically wrong with me," she said. "So wonder why I was there…" Sarah Hyland was born with kidney dysplasia, a condition in which the kidneys don't fully form in the womb. She also has endometriosis, a very painful disorder that affects the uterine lining. It is estimated that somewhere between 10% and 20% of women of childbearing age suffer from endometriosis. Because of those two conditions, Sarah has been in and out of the hospital for extended periods of time. She has had 16 surgeries so far, including organ transplant surgeries, and she is only 28 years old. That's more than one surgery every two years. Her health journey is ever present and ongoing. She had her first kidney transplant in 2012 when she was just 21 years old. She underwent a second kidney transplant in 2017. She did not hesitate to display her scar from the second transplant on Instagram. Sarah has remained open with her fans about all of her serious health concerns. That's one of the reasons her fans are so devoted to her and supportive of her. Last year, she called out doctors for not taking her seriously. Unfortunately, this is quite a common occurrence among women — and even more so among women of color. But sometimes, doctors try their best, and they still can't figure out the problem. Sarah was hospitalized for four days in June. She underwent plenty of tests, but she still doesn't know what her "mystery illness" was and why it caused the choking sensation she felt. She shared the story on Instagram: "Long story short, I went in because I was feeling like I was being choked from whatever's in the house, and I was like, maybe it's actually a coincidence, maybe there's actually something medically wrong with me," she explained. She had chest pain, shortness of breath, "the whole shebang," she said. But it turned out to be … nothing? Still, Sarah knew that something was off. She definitely wasn't feeling good at all. "So wonder why I was there…" Unfortunately, this isn't the first time that Sarah has been hospitalized this year. She also spent 24 hours in the hospital in March. Sarah shared with her Instagram followers during that incident, explaining that she was running a fever. She also was suffering from pink eye and a viral respiratory infection. The illness caused her endometriosis to flare up. But luckily, Sarah isn't in this fight all on her own. She says that she's been coping much better with her various health challenges since she started dating her boyfriend, reality star Wells Adams of The Bachelorette and Bachelor in Paradise fame. They started dating right before her second kidney transplant, and he's been by her side ever since. "He was texting me in the morning before I went into surgery, and we were FaceTiming the entire time I was in the hospital," she told People. "He’s seen me at my worst. He was there through all of that." "I think that’s why I feel the most beautiful in his eyes, because he still finds me beautiful after seeing all that." A source tells People that Sarah will have to live with these chronic illnesses for the rest of her life, but Wells has been "incredibly supportive." "Wells has 100 percent changed Sarah’s life for the better," the source added. "They are very much in love." Way to go Sarah for finding something so positive in what has surely been one of the most difficult times of her life.
