Watch Simon And Garfunkel Sing ”America” In 2003

As I type these words, it is September 11, 2015. There's no better time than today to watch the video below in an emotional tribute to those who lost their lives on 9/11, and to our great country of the United States. On September 12, 2003, Simon and Garfunkel appeared on the Late Show With David Letterman, where they performed a stunning rendition of their 1968 song, "America."

Inspired by a road trip Simon took with his girlfriend, the song is about two young lovers hitchhiking their way across the United States, in search of "America," one both literal and physical. "America" is regarded as one of the duo's best songs ever.

Simon and Garfunkel had an infamous falling out in the mid-to-late 90s. Eight months prior to their Late Show appearance, the duo was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 45th Annual Grammy Awards. Promoters convinced them to reconcile and open the show with a performance. They enjoyed the reconciliation, so they planned a reunion tour. The Old Friends tour began in October 2003 and played to sold-out audiences across the United States.

"America" is such a fitting, nostalgic song for a day like today. There's nothing quite like Simon's easy, breezy voice accompanied by Garfunkel's notorious high notes.

Please enjoy the amazing performance below, and SHARE it with your friends on Facebook!
