Not long after she burst onto the music scene, vocal powerhouse Charice became one of the youngest and most respected singers in the industry. But before she hit it big, Charice was just an ordinary girl from the Philippines who loved to sing and who idolized Celine Dion.
In 2008, Oprah surprised Charice on her show with an appearance by Céline Dion via satellite, who invited her to sing a special duet at New York City's Madison Square Garden as part of her tour. A few months later, Charice and Celine performed the promised duet.
Before her last song, Céline introduces Charice and tries to calm the nervous teenager in a seven-minute monologue. Then, the two sing a stunning rendition of "Because You Loved Me," which they dedicate to Charice's mother. It's amazing to watch a seemingly shy Charice take complete command of the sold-out audience as soon as she opens her mouth to sing. Seeing her mother beaming with pride and joy, and crying at the end, brought tears to my eyes. It's no wonder this video has been seen almost 35 million times!
Can you imagine watching your daughter perform with Céline at MSG?! What a surreal, beautiful experience!
